Realme 12 Pro+ Review: All You Need to Know

Getting to Know Realme 12 Pro+: An Introduction to Specifications:

The mid-range smartphone segment is  out to a great  launch this time. The new midrangers  feel to be getting new, more potent camera setups, nicer chipsets from Qualcomm, and indeed better displays. The Realme 12 Pro is still catching up, and the biggest upgrade is  really the camera hardware.

Speaking of prices, the launch price label has been banged by Rs 68,000/-, but it remains to be seen whether the European price will get a correction.   conceivably in order to accommodate the  dear 64MP periscope blowup camera, Realme had to compromise with the main camera. The main 200MP shooter is replaced with a 50MP one with a slightly  lower sensor too. The third  supplementary 8MP ultrawide camera remains.

The latest device features an upgraded Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset, utilizing a more advanced 4nm manufacturing process. While the display remains unchanged, the curved 120Hz OLED panel from the previous year continues to deliver an excellent viewing experience in 2024. Although its maximum brightness may slightly lag behind some competitors, it remains satisfactory for comfortable outdoor use.

The device maintains its stylish design featuring vegan leather and a robust 5,000 mAh battery. However, there's a trade-off as the charging speed has decreased to 67 watts from the previous year's 100W. It appears Realme made some adjustments to accommodate new features, notably the periscope telephoto camera.

Realme 12 Pro+: A Closer Look at Design and User-Friendly Features:

The Realme 12 Pro+ introduces subtle design refinements compared to its predecessor. While the circular camera island takes inspiration from Oppo Find N3 and OnePlus 12, featuring a luxury watch-like design, the camera module protrudes noticeably.

The rear maintains its unchanged aesthetic, incorporating soft-touch vegan leather with a central zipper-like strip, enhancing both grip and comfort. The seamless integration of edges with the side frame contributes to a smooth and well-crafted feel.

With razor-thin bezels, the Realme 12 Pro+ stands as a unique option for curved screen enthusiasts.

Endurance Unleashed: Battery Performance of the Realme 12 Pro+:

The Realme 12 Pro+ is equipped with a familiar 5,000 mAh battery, consistent with its predecessor. However, the new Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset promises enhanced efficiency, a claim substantiated by real-life tests. Notably, the device showcases slightly extended battery life, especially during talk time and web browsing. It's essential to highlight that while the Active Use Score has improved marginally compared to the Realme 11 Pro, the video playback time remains unchanged, and gaming endurance has seen a reduction of over an hour.

Swift Juicing: Charging Speeds of the Realme 12 Pro+:

Regrettably, the Realme 12 Pro+ exhibits a slowdown in charging speed, particularly when compared to its forerunner, the Realme 11 Pro+. While its predecessor supports rapid 100W charging, the 12 Pro+ settles for a 67W charging capability. In practical terms, the discrepancy is noticeable but not overwhelmingly significant. The newer model achieves 49% charge in 15 minutes (compared to the predecessor's 63%), with a full charge now taking approximately 43 minutes, up from the Realme 11 Pro+'s speedy 28 minutes.

In a competitive context, the Realme 12 Pro+ holds its ground against rival devices, though some models in the Redmi Note series exhibit slightly faster charging speeds.

Smooth Operations: Software and Performance of the Realme 12 Pro+:

The Realme 12 Pro+ debuts with the latest Android 14, complemented by its custom skin, Realme UI 5.0. Notably, the UI closely mirrors Oppo's ColorOS 14 and OnePlus' OxygenOS 14, encompassing a host of features.

Driving its operations is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset, crafted using a 4nm process technology. While not as potent as the 7+ Gen 2 or the original 7 Gen 1, it outperforms the Dimensity 7050 found in the 11 Pro+. The octa-core processor, with 4x Cortex-A78 @2.4GHz and 4x Cortex-A55 @1.95GHz, lacks a Prime designation and follows an older core design from 2020.

The Adreno 710 GPU, also inherited from the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 SoC, powers the SD7s Gen 2, supporting FHD+ resolution at a smooth 144 Hz. Memory configurations include 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB, and 12GB/256GB, with no provision for storage expansion.

Capturing Moments: Realme 12 Pro+ Triple-Camera Setup Exploration:

The Realme 12 Pro+ distinguishes itself with a robust triple-camera setup, particularly noteworthy for featuring a 3x telephoto lens, a rarity in its price range. The main camera boasts impressive specs with a 50 MP sensor, f/1.8 aperture, 24mm wide lens, and advanced features like multi-directional PDAF and OIS, delivering sharp and detailed daylight photos.

The telephoto lens, an innovative periscope design, offers 64 MP, f/2.8 aperture, 71mm focal length, 3x optical zoom, PDAF, and OIS, providing users with versatile shooting capabilities. The ultrawide camera, maintaining consistency with the previous model, features an 8 MP sensor and f/2.2 aperture, delivering a wide 112Ëš perspective.

While the main camera forgoes the trend of a 200MP sensor, the 50MP alternative still captures crisp stills. The absence of a macro camera is notable but not necessarily missed.

Daylight photos from the main camera showcase sharpness, detail, and a preference for conservative colors. Selfies, however, appear less impressive with muted colors and some noise. In terms of video recording, the Realme 12 Pro+ supports 2160p@30fps for both the main and telephoto cameras, with the ultrawide and selfie cameras maxing out at 1080p@30fps.

In summary, the Realme 12 Pro+ offers a versatile and capable camera system, particularly excelling in daylight photography with its main and telephoto lenses.
